Tips on Hosting a Nursery Rhyme Themed Baby Shower

Celebrate the innocence of a new baby with a traditional nursery rhyme themed baby shower. Everyone has their own favorite nursery rhymes that they remember from their childhood. Generations have been read the same Mother Goose rhymes, making this the perfect non-commercial theme for a multi-generational baby shower.

With so many different nursery rhymes to choose from, it will be easy to tailor the party for a baby boy or a baby girl. Or, if you don’t know the gender of the baby, pick some of your favorite rhymes or some of the mom-to-be’s favorites.  Incorporate the different themes from a few nursery rhymes into the invitations, decorations and games to throw a baby shower your guests will remember as fondly as they remember nursery rhymes from their childhood.

Invitations

Are you having trouble selecting a nursery rhyme to base the invitation on? You don’t have to choose. Candles and Favors offers a perfectly sweet nursery rhyme baby shower invitation that incorporates some of the most well-known and some of the most cherished nursery rhymes. These professionally designed and printed invitations are economical and so easy to order. Personalize the invitation with the new mother’s name, the date, time and location of the shower, RSVP information, registry information, and any other message you have for your guests.

Decorations

Many nursery rhymes have some element of nature in them – Little Bo Peep, Old MacDonald, Rock a Bye Baby and Little Miss Muffet all conjure sweet images of animals and nature. Take your cue from Mother Nature’s color palate when planning the decorations for the shower. Your invitations already feature soothing, natural colors and images. Nature inspired greens and browns are a good base for the decorations. Add interesting pops of color like soft pinks, boyish blues, and barn reds in the tablecloths, napkins, plates, cups, and even food choices.

Forego traditional streamers and hang clothes line around the room instead. Hang onesies, bibs and burp cloths that match the color and theme of the party. You can also order custom tags for the baby shower with nursery rhyme graphics but leave the text blank. Use these tags to label food at the buffet, or use them as place cards for the guests if you are having the baby shower at a restaurant.

Games

Games are an integral part of baby showers. Pick one or two nursery-rhyme themed games for guests to enjoy. Some ideas include who can list the most nursery rhymes, fill in the blank to complete popular (or not so popular) nursery rhymes, and name that nursery rhyme – give guests a line from the nursery rhyme and have them fill in the name of the nursery rhyme.

Favors and Prizes

Of course, you have to have prizes for the winners of the games. Beautifully scented, hand poured candles are always a hit! And, you can personalize them to go along with the theme of the shower. For a favor guest will use, order smaller matching candles. And don’t forget to order thank you notes and return address labels for the expecting mother. It will make it much easier for her to show her appreciate to all of the guests during a very exciting – and hectic – time!
